Here’s everything you need to know about Carnival Row Season 2!
Amazon’s popular neo-noir fantasy drama series, Carnival Row, is returning for a 2nd season. Created by Rene Echevarria and Travis Beacham, the show is based on the movie, A Killing on Carnival Row.
The series released its pilot season back in August of 2019. Carnival Row season 2 soon went into production after the first installment’s release. The production faced major delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic that had the entire world in its grip. Filing resumed again in 2021 after about a year’s break and has finally been completed. The show’s first season has a 7.8 out of 10 rating on IMDb and has garnered a large fan following after just one season.
Carnival Row Season 2 Cast
The team has put together a stellar cast, significantly contributing to the show’s immense success. Based on the ending of the 1st season, we predict that all of the leading cast members and most of the recurring characters will return for Carnival Row season 2.
In the leading role, we have Orlando Bloom portraying the role of Rycroft Philostrate (Philo), an inspector of the Burgue Constabulary who is currently investigating the dark conspiracies in the city. Bloom is a famous actor best known for his roles in The Lord of The Rings movie series and The Hobbit movie series.
Cara Delevingne plays Vignette Stonemoss, a fae and the former lover of Philo. Delevingne is an English actor, model, and singer and has played roles in multiple mainstream movies, including The Suicide Squad. The actress is an avid LGBTQIA+ advocate and has received multiple accolades for modeling and acting performances.
Simon McBurney plays Runyon Millworthy, a street performer and a master of the troupe of kobolds. David Gyasi portrays Agreus Astrayon, a wealthy faun who was rejected by the high society of Burgue. We have Tamzin Merchant as Imogen Spurnrose, an heiress who starts associating with Agreus to maintain her lavish lifestyle.
Further, we have Andrew Gower as Ezra Spurnrose, Imogen’s brother, whose poor handling of the family’s finances led them into debt. There is Karla Crome as Tournaline Larou, Arty Froushan as Jonah Breakspear, Caroline Ford as Sophie Longerbane, and Indira Varma as Piety Breakspear. Jared Harris plays Absalom Breakspear and Jamie Harris as Sergeant Dombey.
Recurring characters in the show that may be present in the second season are Alice Krige, Ariyon Bakare, Maeve Dermody, Tracey Wilkinson, Leanne Best, Anna Rust, Mark Lewis Jones, and many more.
Carnival Row Season 2 Release Date
The filming for Carnival Row season 2 has officially wrapped up and entered its post-production phase. The team is yet to reveal the exact release date of the upcoming installment. Initially, various news outlets predicted that the second season would drop in July of 2022; however, that seems unlikely now. This is because there is still an immense amount of post-production work that needs to finish before the latest season becomes available for streaming.
Based on careful evaluation, We believe that Carnival Row season 2 will drop sometime in August of 2022. This is exactly three years after its pilot season on Amazon Prime Video.
The team has also not disclosed whether the season will release the episodes at once or weekly. Most series are now released weekly or split into two parts. The Boys released the first three episodes of its third season at once and the rest in a weekly fashion. Carnival Row season 2 will probably follow a similar pattern.
The official synopsis for Carnival Row season 2 is currently unavailable; nonetheless, based on season 1’s ending, we can predict a possible season 2 storyline. The first season follows the life of Philo, who gets occupied in detecting a series of gruesome murders. He unravels that a horrifying creature created from dead bodies, the Darkasher, is behind the murders.
The monster was under Piety Breakspear’s control, attempting to find her husband’s bastard child. Unfortunately for Piety, the monster died when Pietybwas killed by Vignette.
Towards the end of the season, we see all hell break loose in Burgue when the political parties separate the Fae and the other mythical creatures from the normal humans of Burgue. Therefore, in the second season, we expect to see how Burgue changes following the harsh decision made by the authorities. In the finale, Philo reveals his true identity of being a Fae.
Moving forward, we believe Fae will attempt to stand up against Chancellor Jonah Breakspear’s racist regime. The show touches on the sensitive topic of racism, so the audience is eager to see how the showrunners handle the case. Will they do justice to the topic, or will they fall short on their portrayal, like most shows? Guess we have to tune into the newest season to find out.
As of now, there is no trailer available for Carnival Row season 2. However, with the release date predicted to be only a couple of months away, we believe the trailer should be available sometime in July. The team is still working on the post-production phase of the sophomore season, so it is not surprising that a trailer is not out yet.
Nevertheless, through Cara Delevingne’s Instagram and Carnival Row’s official Twitter page, fans have been getting sneak peeks into the behind-the-scenes activities. And based on them, the upcoming season seems to be just as power-packed as the first one, if not more.
