Celine Dion hasn’t been on the stage for quite some while. She even canceled her UK and mainland Europe tour, which was scheduled for February 2023, and this is all because the French Canadian singer suffers from a disease. Celine Dion disease is an autoimmune disorder that is diagnosed in one to two people in a million and takes a toll on a person’s life, making it difficult for them to carry out even the simplest of actions. 

Celine Dion Disease Confirmed In December

On December 8, 2022, Celine shared a video on her Instagram account telling all her fans that she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome. She informed her fans that because of this disease, she wouldn’t be able to perform on the stage until she recovered. She even shared that she is still learning more about her medical condition and how it affects her daily life.

Moreover, she also said, “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”

Furthermore, she reassured her fans that she was trying her best to recover so she could one day return to the stage and sing for them. She has also confirmed that she is surrounded by some of the best specialists who are trying to help Celine regain her strength and become better. What Is Stiff Person Syndrome?

The Celine Dion disease, Stiff Person Syndrome is a rare autoimmune disorder caused by glutamic acid decarboxylase antibodies blocking the enzymes. This leads to an increase in muscle stiffness and tone. These muscles are not always stiff but keep fluctuating, with episodes of muscle spam occurring anywhere and anytime. Moreover, this neurological disorder primarily affects muscles in the trunk and limbs.

Usually, people diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome also become sensitive to noise, touch, and emotional distress, which can set off muscle spasms, putting the person in a lot of pain. In fact, some people become too disabled to even walk and are scared to leave their houses because street noises can trigger their episodes of spasm. 

Is There A Cure For Celine Dion Disease, Stiff Person Syndrome Curable?

Unfortunately, the Celine Dion disease has no permanent cure, and its symptoms vary from person to person. Doctors usually give anti-anxiety medicines and muscle relaxants to patients diagnosed with SPS to reduce their painful muscle spasms and slow their disease progression.
