Ike Turner was a famous musician and songwriter known for classics like “What’s Love Got to Do with It.” He made several significant contributions to the musical world, especially in the rock and roll and R&B genres. 

Turner started his music career by joining the Tophatters, a local rhythm ensemble. This band consisted of 30 members and later split up into two due to differences in music preferences. One group wanted to play Jazz, while the other wanted to become the “Kings of Rhythm.” Turner joined the latter and kept this name throughout his career.

In 1951, his band released the song “Rocket 88.” It topped the billboards and put Turner and his crew on the map! 

He then released several hits and collaborated with successful artists like Anna Mae Bullock, i.e., Tina Turner. They formed the iconic duo Ike & Tina Turner Revue and produced various hit songs, including “River Deep – Mountain High” and “Proud Mary.”
