Commonwealth Games 2018: Sanjita Chanu wins India’s second Gold, Deepak Lather claims Bronze

Quite a day for India at Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2018 as Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu has won India’s second gold medal with Deepak Lather winning Bronze in Men’s 69 kg weightlifting category. Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu won Gold Medal in women’s 53 Kg event. She set a new CWG record with a lift of 84kg in snatch and then lifted 108 in clean & jerk. She had won Gold 4 yrs back in Glasgow. Defending champion, Loa Dika Toua (Papua New Guinea) managed to win silver with a total lift of 182 – 80 in snatch and 102 in clean & jerk) while Canada’s Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet who completed  a total of 181kg – 81 in snatch and 100 in clean & jerk claimed bronze medal.

Yesterday, Mirabai Chanu won gold in the women’s 48 kg event with a combined effort of 196kg to give India first Gold at CWG 2018. In other events women’s Hockey team beats Malaysia 4-1 in the second Pool A game. A brace from Gurjit Kaur from the penalty corner and two field goals from Rani and Lalremsiami gave India the win. On the other hand Shuttlers lead 4-0 in mixed-team event. India have been granted the top seed alongside with Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Scotland in Group A. On the opening day of Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast India thrashed Pakistan 5-0 in one-sided badminton matches in mixed-team event.
