Pokémon Winds and Waves has officially been announced during the Pokémon Day 2026 Pokémon Presents livestream, bringing exciting news for fans around the world. The reveal was part of the franchise’s 30th Anniversary celebration, where developer Game Freak also introduced the new Gen 10 starter Pokémon and confirmed the game’s release date.
The upcoming title is expected to begin a brand-new generation, and fans are eager to learn more about its story, gameplay and what the next Pokémon adventure will offer. Here’s everything to know about the release date and latest updates.

Pokémon Winds and Waves Release Date
Game Freak has officially confirmed that Pokémon Winds and Waves will launch in 2027, after months of speculation from fans. The new title will introduce Generation 10 and continue the main series after Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which released in 2022. While the release year has been announced in the official trailer, the exact launch date has not been shared yet, meaning fans will have to wait longer for more details.
Looking at past Pokémon games, most mainline titles have released in November. For example, Pokémon Sun and Moon launched on November 18th, 2016, followed by Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on November 17th, 2017. Later, Pokémon Sword and Shield arrived on November 15, 2019, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet came out on November 18th, 2022.
Based on this pattern, fans believe Pokémon Winds and Waves could also release around November 2027, although this has not been officially confirmed.
Pokémon Generation 10 Starters
Game Freak has also introduced the starter Pokémon for Generation 10 in Pokémon Winds and Waves. Players will be able to choose between three new companions at the beginning of their journey. These include Pombon, a Fire-type dog, Browt, a Grass-type bird, and Gecqua, a Water-type gecko. The new starters give fans their first look at the fresh designs coming in the next generation.
Pokémon Winds and Waves New Pikachu Characters
Pokémon Winds and Waves will feature two new Pikachu characters called Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu. Likely version-exclusive (Mr. Windychu in Winds, Ms. Wavychu in Waves, per fan speculation); exact roles teased but unrevealed.
Pokémon Generation 10 Leaks Confirmed
The trailer for Pokémon Winds and Waves also gave fans their first look at the new Generation 10 region and map. The footage showed tropical locations like beaches, lava areas, and islands, which match earlier leaks that said the games would be set in a Southeast Asia-inspired archipelago. The trailer also hinted at underwater exploration, which was another detail mentioned in past rumors.
Some leaks also claimed that players will use a special Rotom Scooter to move around the world, including traveling across water and possibly underwater, depending on their Pokémon’s abilities. While not all of these features have been fully confirmed, many of the earlier leak details appear to be accurate based on the official trailer. It has also been confirmed that Pokémon Winds and Waves will release only on the Nintendo Switch 2, meaning it will not be available on older consoles.
