Celebrity Betting: What are the Boundaries?

It seems that you can bet on almost anything these days. If you are familiar with online bookmakers, then you probably already know that they offer odds on a lot more than just sports. For instance, some internet betting sites offer odds on Elon Musk’s SpaceX project reaching Mars. You can place wagers on politicians winning elections. You can even bet on which way major stock markets will move. But some of the more popular types of non-sports-related wagers pertain to celebrities.

Celebrity Betting Opportunities

A lot of bookies offer odds on such things as whether a star actress’s baby will be male or female. Instead of betting on which team will win the Super Bowl, you can bet on what colour the halftime show’s headliner’s pants will be. Of course, top bookmakers accept loads of bets from punters who want to wager on events like the Academy Awards, Grammys, and Oscars. Most would agree that these types of celebrity bets are in reasonably good taste.

When you go to most top bookmakers in the UK, you can find loads of interesting celebrity betting opportunities. Whilst a lot of these propositions are harmless, some come a little close to crossing the line in terms of taste. But where is that line drawn? The reality is that no lines have been officially drawn. It’s a matter of perspective.

If you ever saw Clint Eastwood’s final Dirty Harry film, 1988’s The Dead Pool, you know that the plot revolved around an underground betting syndicate taking action on which famous celebrity would be the next to die. Of course, the controversial Inspector Callahan eventually became the odds-on favourite. Most people would say that this type of celebrity betting crosses several lines.

As you would expect, you’re not going to find such highly inflammatory propositions at top UK bookmakers. But how about betting on which star would be the next to get busted for drug possession or caught cheating on a spouse?

One of the more interesting wagers to recently appear at an unnamed international sportsbook was “Who will Kim Kardashian’s next boyfriend be?”. Does that push the boundaries? Most people would likely say no. Furthermore, most people probably wouldn’t give any thought as to how seeing such a proposition would affect Ms. Kardashian.

Whilst there are no universal boundaries to celebrity betting, it’s safe to say that major bookmaker brands will continue to proceed with caution. It’s the smart way to go especially in an age where cancel culture is so prevalent. If you are looking for a fun and harmless celebrity wager, then here are a few of the most popular ones that are available right now.

  • Who will have the most followed Tik Tok account by the end of 2023?
  • Who will be the next James Bond?
  • Will Nick Offerman win an Emmy award for his role as Bill in The Last of Us?
  • Who will win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2023?
  • Who will win Strictly Come Dancing 2023?

These bets are just a drop in the bucket. With so many excellent bookies being out there, the range of celebrity betting opportunities is seemingly endless.  And as you can see, none of these propositions will raise any hackles or make a victim out of anyone. Moreover, none of those propositions will make you feel morally bankrupt when you place your bet. Then again, when it comes to betting on celebrities or anything else, you have to set your own moral boundaries.

If you are interested in celebrity betting, then visit a licensed UK bookmaker and hit the “Entertainment” or “Specials” tab. You can then choose from a variety of celebrity wagers.
