India greats LG G8s ThinQ smartphone and its Hand ID feature

The launch of G series by LG has faced a lot of hype worldwide, specifically the LG G8S ThinQ smartphone mainly because the phone comes with a variety of innovative features such as the Hand ID feature- the latest introduction in the biometric authentication family.  

After much wait, this unique and robust smartphone has finally been released in India and has managed to take the country by storm. Its exceptionally stunning features instilled through deft use of infra-red technology have all taken up the fascination of every technology pro person.

The phone by all true means is a smartphone. Apart from only authenticating smartly through the Hand ID feature, the phone also sports a verity of other equally fascinating features. Amongst them are the hand gestures such as the Air Motion which allows the users to perform various actions on their phones such as swiping through the gallery and navigating through the phone without having physical contact with the phone screen.

Additionally, the LG G8s ThinQ is powered with the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC processor chipset. It also comes with a MIL-STD 810G-certified build along with IP68 dust and water resistance rating. 

How does the Hand ID feature work in LG G8s ThinQ?

The feature works through the ToF (time of flight) camera and the infrared sensor that you can find on the front of the device. these sensors in combination map out the pattern of your vein through the blood present within them 

Once these sensors have read the vein pattern,  it stored in the memeory of the phone to match with is every time you try to unlock the phone. This is undoubtedly an innovative and foolproof method of authentication, as everyone possesses a different set of vein pattern. Thus it cant be cheated.  Through the sensors used for Hand ID feature, other feature work too, such as the Air Motion feature that also uses the same sensors and the vein pattern in your hand.

How to use the Hand ID feature 

To activate this feature in your phone, follow these instructions:

  • Go to Settings
  • Open the General tab
  • Select on the option “lock screen and security.” 
  • Scroll till you find the “Hand ID” in biometric section 
  • Register your hand ID by following the instructions 

Once you have set up the lock, you can also add up a few other recognition features such as “cover to wake” or “swipe to unlock.” To test if its working put your palm 6-8 inches above the screen and try it out. If the phone unlocks, then you are good to go!

The latest Android Pie version programs LG G8s ThinQ. Additionally, it is equipped with the 6.2 inches Full HD (1080×2248 pixels) along with 19.5:9 ratio screen display. It is powered by the Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor chipset and comes with a 6GB RAM and internal storage of 128 GB.

LG has equipped the LG G8s ThinQ smartphone with a Triple rear camera setup that comes with a 12- megapixel primary camera with f/1.8 lens, 13-megapixels wide-angle sensor with a 137- degree field view, 12- megapixels telephoto lens with f/2.6 lens

The secondary camera comes with an 8-megapixel sensor along with a ToF Z camera that is used as a sensor Hand ID, Air Motion, and face recognition unlock. Moreover, the smartphone comes with a 3,550 mAh battery with fast charge 3.0 support.

The dimensions of the phone are 55.3×76.6×7.99 mm and weight a mere 181 gms. The connectivity options in the phone are Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB type C and more. As mentioned above it comes in Mirror Black, Mirror Teal, and Mirror White

LG G8s ThinQ price in India 

The phone is available for sale on 29 Sept. 2019 nationwide in various retail stores. You can get the single 6GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant at Rs. 36,990. It is available in Mirror Black, Mirror Teal, and Mirror White color.
