The day started early for Sony and took the advantage of the MWC 2018 to present two new smartphones. Having the code names Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact, both are redesigned flagships of the company. These devices move away from the sharp corners and more traditional design to a new style with Sony’s Reality Display engine. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact equips every feature of Xperia XZ2 but it squeezes all details into one smaller rounded poly carbonate body.
Design:
These are company’s thinnest smartphones sporting a thickness of just 11.1 mm with Aluminium frame. Sony has placed the fingerprint sensor to the back, just below the camera. Meanwhile, there is a USB Type-C port on the bottom of the device and the headphone jack, as expected has been removed.
Key Factors:
- The rear camera of XZ2 includes a 19MP Motion Eye sensor which supports 4K HDR recording(@30 fps) with Autofocus burst. The f/1.8 aperture camera setup is a Motion Eye sensor.

- The Audio Performance of Sony flagships have deep and thunder sound technology.
- The in-built storage of 64GB comes with Universal Flash Storage which can deliver Up to 23.2Gbps Data transfer Rate. The microSD card storage capacity is around up-to 400 GB in both the devices.
- You can capture videos at 960 frames per second at 1080p quality that is superior to Samsung’s Galaxy S9.
- The surround sound, wireless charging and water and dust resistance guaranteed by the IP65 / 68 certification.
- Both devices runs on the latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC.

Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact both will be available worldwide from second week of March 2018. The Japanese company hasn’t disclosed the pricing yet. But, expected prices of XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are approx. $975 (around 63,000) and $765 (around 50,000).
