Release Date for The Pope’s Exorcist
The Pope’s Exorcist is set to hit the big screen on 14th April 2023, in both the UK and the US. There is currently no news on which streaming platforms will take on the movie or when. If you wish to watch the film first, you must go to the cinema. However, if you want to stream it at home, you’ll likely have to wait a few months (or longer) till it becomes available on streaming platforms.

Cast
The Pope’s Exorcist stars Russell Crowe in the lead as Father Gabriele Amorth. Father Gabriele was the official chief exorcist appointed by the Vatican, and it’s his case files that led to the inspiration for this movie. Crowe is an immensely talented actor who also won an Academy Award for his leading role in Gladiator.
Joining the cast, we have the legendary Italian actor Franco Nero as the Pope, who hands Father Gabrielle his newest assignment -a boy possessed by an evil demon. Nero’s previous work in Hollywood includes movies such as Django and John Wick: Chapter 2.
Ralph Ineson joins the cast as the voice of the demon who possesses the young boy. Ineson is popularly known for his roles in Harry Potter, Deathly Hollows, and The Witch.
Moreover, joining the cast, we have Cornell S. John (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Laurel Marsden (Ms. Marvel, Survive), Daniel Zovatto (Don’t Breathe, It Follows), Alex Essoe (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor) and newcomer Peter Desouza-Feighoney, who will make his movie debut with this film.

The Pope’s Exorcist: Plot
The Pope’s Exorcist takes inspiration from the case files of Father Gabrielle Amorth. Amorth was the official exorcist for the Vatican and worked directly for the Pope. Gabrielle Amorth passed away at 91 in 2016 and left behind two work records: An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories.
When discussing Father Gabrielle and his work, Crowe explained, “It’s a very dark pursuit, and it is faith that gave him a certain level of courage to do the job.”
The movie’s main plot starts when the Pope personally asks Amorth to remove a terrifying demon from a young boy. While doing so, Amorth soon realizes that this demon is stronger and eviler than any demon he ever faced. Moreover, the exorcism of the little boy leads AMorth to discover a conspiracy that the Vatican had kept hidden for centuries.
The Official Trailer
Sony Pictures released the official trailer for The Pope’s Exorcist on 22nd February 2023, almost two months before the movie’s release. In just three weeks, the trailer has over 14 million views, which shows the viewers are excited about the movie’s release.
The trailer shows Father Gabrielle summoned in front of a panel after his exorcism of a young woman went south. The girl jumped to her death while Amorth could not do anything about it. Amorth gets assigned another case by the Pope himself. This is the case of a possessed young boy, and the demon asks explicitly for the priest, i.e., Father Gabriel Amorth.

Amorth discovers some long-buried truths about the Vatican as he tries to exorcise the young boy. Now Amorth must get to the bottom of this mystery and help the young boy.
